Choosing well
How do I choose a homeschool curriculum?
Choose a homeschool curriculum by reading its full scope and sequence before you pay, checking one real unit that matters to you, working out the price for your whole family per year, trying a real lesson, and finding out how much of your time each grade needs, and any curriculum worth buying lets you do all five first.
1. Read the whole thing
A publisher confident in its content publishes all of it. Clareza's 71 courses are readable in full, every unit, skill and objective, with no account.
2. Check one unit that matters to you
If you want secular science, ask to see the unit where evolution is taught, not a statement about it. In Clareza it is a unit in Grade 9 Biology, and you can read it now.
3. Do the per-family arithmetic
Take the monthly price, multiply by the number of children and by twelve. Clareza is $29 a month for every child in the household, so $348 a year for one child or four.
4. Try a lesson
A sample tells you more than a feature list. Clareza has three complete lessons at /sample with no account, and 30 days free with a card taken and nothing charged until day 30.
5. Ask how much of you it needs
It differs by age. In Clareza, kindergarten to Grade 2 science and social studies are activities you lead, and from Grade 3 Clara teaches the lessons while you check the dashboard.
When Clareza is the wrong choice
- If you want a classical, Charlotte Mason, unschooling or literature-based approach, this is not it.
- If you want mostly offline, book-based school, this is screen-based outside PE and the K-2 activities.
- If you need an accredited school or a diploma, Clareza is a curriculum and offers neither.
