Before you decide
Is homeschooling right for my family? What are the pros and challenges?
It can be, if one adult can give it time most days, the family budget works around that, and your child is likely to do better at home than where they are now. Most families only know for sure after a few months, so plan it as a trial with a review date, not a forever decision.
The pros parents name most
Teaching at your child's own pace, subject by subject. A shorter school day, with more time for sleep, family, faith or interests. And a way out of a school situation that was not working, such as bullying or anxiety.
The challenges, honestly
Time: someone has to teach or supervise and keep records, and young children need the most of it. Money: often a parent works less, which costs more than any curriculum. Friendships take effort to arrange. And some weeks you will doubt yourself.
Not on a whim, but not forever
Read your state's rules first, at /homeschooling-in. Talk to two or three homeschooling families. Then pick a date to review, such as the end of a term. The steps for leaving school are at /homeschool-curriculum/switching-from-public-school-to-homeschool.
Where Clareza fits
It is one curriculum option, not the decision. Clareza Academy is $29 a month for every child in the household after 30 free days, and the trial needs a card. From Grade 3 up, Clara, the teacher built into every lesson, does most of the teaching. K-2 science and social studies are done with you.
What this is not
- Clareza cannot tell you whether to homeschool. That depends on your child, your time and your money.
- It does not replace the parent. Someone is still responsible for the homeschool and should check in every day.
- It runs online only, and Clara is an AI that can be wrong.

Questions parents ask
Can we afford to homeschool on one income?
Many families do. Curriculum can cost little with a library card. The bigger cost is usually a parent's working hours.
How much time does homeschooling take each day?
Usually less than a school day. Young children need an adult nearby for most of it, older children less.
What if homeschooling does not work out?
Your child can usually go back to school. Keep records of what they studied, and ask the school early how it places children.
