Before you spend anything
What do I need to buy to start homeschooling?
Much less than the lists online suggest: a device with a web browser, a library card, paper, pencils and a place to work cover most families for the first month. Buy the rest once you know how your child learns.
The short list
A computer, tablet or phone with a web browser. A library card. Paper, pencils, crayons and a folder for finished work. A printer helps but is not required, and a library or office store can print the odd page.
Wait on the big purchases
Curriculum sets, desks, wall charts and science kits can wait a few weeks. Many families find their child works best at the kitchen table, and that one subject needs more help than they expected.
What Clareza needs
A device with a browser and an internet connection. Most lessons run on screen with Clara. K-2 science and social studies are done with you, using things most homes already have, ice cubes, tape, paper, a family photo, and each lesson lists what it needs first. A microphone is only needed if you switch on answering out loud.
What this is not
- Clareza runs online. It does not work without an internet connection.
- There is no kit or workbook to buy, but printed practice needs your own printer and paper.
- Some states ask for records or testing. Check yours at /homeschooling-in before you start.

Questions parents ask
Do I need a printer to homeschool?
No, but it helps. A library can print the odd page, and Clareza has no required workbook to print.
What device does Clareza work on?
Any computer, tablet or phone with a web browser and an internet connection.
Do I need to buy a curriculum before I start?
Not on day one. Library books and a few weeks of reading and math at home are a fine start while you choose.
