Handwriting and cursive
How do I teach handwriting and cursive at home?
A few minutes of practice most days works better than long sessions: check the pencil grip, use lined paper sized for your child, and teach letters in groups that share a shape. Clareza Academy does not have a handwriting or cursive course, so this page covers what usually helps.
What usually helps
Five to ten minutes a day. Model each letter slowly and say the strokes out loud. Group letters that start the same way, such as c, a, d, g and o. Praise neat, not fast.
Cursive
Many families start cursive around Grade 2 or 3, once print letters are steady. Practise joins in short words rather than whole pages.
Where Clareza fits
Clareza lessons are answered by typing, tapping or speaking, so they do not practise handwriting. Its free printable units have practice sheets your child writes on, at /free/grade-1-math.
What this is not
- Clareza has no handwriting or cursive course.
- If writing is painful or very slow despite practice, ask your pediatrician about an occupational therapy evaluation.
