For a child who hates writing
What writing curriculum works for a reluctant writer?
A reluctant writer usually does best when the thinking is separated from the handwriting and spelling, and the writing builds up in small pieces: one sentence, then a paragraph, then an essay. In Clareza Academy, writing is part of English from Grade 3, where Clara, the teacher built into every lesson, asks for one part at a time and responds to it.
Start small, and let them say it first
Let your child say the idea out loud before writing it, and write it down for them if handwriting is the wall. Sentence starters and a simple plan, what I think, one reason, an example, make the blank page smaller.
Paragraphs, then essays
Grade 3 English builds up to a four-paragraph opinion piece in small steps: an opinion sentence, reasons, proof, a plan, then the draft. Informative and story writing follow, then argument essays in later grades and a research paper in Grade 12.
Writing support, if writing is the hard part
A parent can switch on Writing support: Clara offers sentence starters and simple outlines, ideas count more than spelling, and your child can answer out loud once you turn on the microphone. It can also print a lesson's questions with big writing lines.
What this is not
- There is no separate writing program or handwriting course. Grades 1 and 2 have phonics, not writing lessons.
- Writing is coached in the chat, and the finished piece is not graded. Clara is an AI and can be wrong, so read your child's work too.
- If writing stays very hard despite good teaching, ask your school district or an educational psychologist about an evaluation.

When does Clareza start teaching paragraphs?
In Grade 3 English, which builds step by step to a four-paragraph opinion piece.
Does Clara read what my child writes?
Yes. In the writing lessons she asks for one part at a time and responds to it. Read it yourself as well.
Can my child say the answer instead of writing it?
Yes, once you turn on Answer out loud and the microphone switch in their Learning Supports.
