Grades 6 to 8 math
What homeschool math should my middle schooler do before algebra?
Ratios and rates, fractions and decimals, negative numbers, expressions and one-variable equations, then a pre-algebra year on linear equations, functions and slope. Clareza Academy has a full course for each of Grades 6, 7 and 8 that builds to Algebra I.
Grade 6
Ratios, Relationships, and the Number System: 8 units from ratios and dividing fractions through negative numbers, expressions, equations, area and volume, and statistics. Unit 1 is a free printable at /free/grade-6-math.
Grade 7
Mathematics 7: proportional relationships, operations with rational numbers, multi-step equations, scale drawings, angles, circles and volume, and an introduction to probability and sampling.
Grade 8 is Pre-Algebra
Pre-Algebra: Foundations for Algebra I covers exponents and scientific notation, the real numbers, linear equations, functions, slope, systems of equations, the Pythagorean theorem and lines of fit. A student who is ready can start Algebra I instead.
What this is not
- There is no separate honors or accelerated track. Each course is mastery-paced.
- Clara is an AI and can be wrong. Check the work now and then yourself.
- It does not award high school credit for middle school math. That is your decision under your state's rules.
