How do I homeschool a child with a learning disability?
Teach at the level your child is actually at, keep lessons short, let them answer in the way that works, and keep any therapy or evaluation going outside the curriculum. Clareza Academy has Learning Supports a parent switches on, but it is a curriculum, not special education.
Teach where they are
A child can be in one grade for reading and another for math. In Clareza you choose each child's grade, add a course from another grade for that subject, and can change it any time.
Learning Supports
You tick what helps, such as Reading support (lessons read aloud and highlighted, an easier font, answers by tapping), Math support (pictures beside questions, a calculator, nothing timed) or Writing support (sentence starters, ideas count more than spelling, and answering out loud once you turn the microphone on). Each switch can also be set on its own.
Coming from an IEP or 504
You can tick accommodations as they are worded on the plan, such as extended time or text read aloud, and the matching supports switch on. You pick supports, not a diagnosis, and no diagnosis is stored. There is more on what happens to an IEP at /homeschooling-for/a-child-with-an-iep.
What this is not
- Clareza is not special education and provides no therapy, tutoring by a specialist, aide or evaluation.
- It does not write an IEP or set goals. Rules for services after you withdraw vary by state, so check yours.
- Clara is an AI and can be wrong. Watch how your child is doing, not only the scores.

Questions parents ask
Can I homeschool a child with dyslexia?
Yes, and many families do. Teach reading at their level, directly and in short sessions, and keep any outside help going.
Does Clareza replace my child's IEP?
No. It is a curriculum with supports you switch on. It writes no goals and provides no services.
Do I have to tell Clareza my child's diagnosis?
No. You pick the supports that help. A diagnosis is never stored.
