Health at home
What should a homeschool health curriculum cover?
Most health courses cover the body, food and sleep, staying well and safe, and feelings and friendships, then add substances and first aid for older children. Clareza Academy has three health courses, for grades 3 to 5, middle school and Grade 9, and none of them include sex education.
Grades 3 to 5
How the body works, germs and hygiene, safety at home, on the street, on a bike and online, and calming down and being a good friend. It is made to be done with a parent nearby. See /courses/g4-health-for-grades-3-5.
Middle school and Grade 9
Middle school adds preventing injury, substances and the developing brain, and getting help. Grade 9 adds stress, first aid and emergency response, and consumer and digital health choices. See /courses/g7-health-for-middle-school and /courses/g9-health-literacy-and-personal-well-being.
Sex education is left to you
All three courses leave out human sexuality entirely, so you decide what to teach and when.
What this is not
- There is no health course for kindergarten to Grade 2.
- There is no sex education in any course.
- This is education, not medical advice. Clara is an AI and can be wrong.
