Bad days, flares and hospital stays
Can I homeschool if my child or I have a chronic illness?
Yes, many families do, by planning for bad days ahead of time, keeping a small daily minimum, and treating rest days as part of the year rather than a failure. Ask your doctor or your child's care team what a realistic school day looks like, because they know the illness.
Plan the bad days in advance
Make a short bad-day list now: audiobooks, a documentary, reading in bed, a board game. On a flare day you pick from it without having to decide anything.
Keep a small minimum
On hard days a little reading and a little math is enough. On good days you do more. Over a year it evens out more than it feels like in a bad week.
Count what happens away from the desk
Reading, audiobooks, cooking and nature walks are learning. Write them down so your records show them.
Where Clareza fits
There are no due dates and units are not weeks, so a slow week costs nothing. Lessons run in a browser on a phone, tablet or computer, so they can be done from bed. Read everything aloud and Short lessons are Learning Supports you can switch on. Hours log while your child works, and offline hours you add are listed separately. If you are the one who is ill, from Grade 3 up Clara teaches each lesson.
What this is not
- Clareza needs an internet connection. There is no offline mode.
- There is no way to pause a subscription. For a long break you can cancel from your billing page, and access lasts to the end of the period you paid for.
- This is not medical advice, and Clara is an AI that can be wrong. Follow your care team on what is realistic.
