Science, aligned to NGSS

Is there a secular homeschool science curriculum that follows NGSS for every grade?

Yes: Clareza Academy's science is 11 secular courses aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards, from hands-on explorations in kindergarten to Grade 2 through Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Environmental Science, with evolution, deep time and climate taught as the scientific consensus.

Kindergarten to Grade 5

Science Explorations for K-2 is weekly hands-on work you do together: weather, ramps, seeds and sound, followed by a short read-aloud tap game. Grade 3 investigates forces, life cycles and Earth systems. Grade 4 is energy, waves and living systems. Grade 5 is matter, ecosystems and patterns in the sky.

Grades 6 to 8

Grade 6 is Earth and Space Systems. Grade 7 is Life Science: cells, body systems, genetics and ecosystems. Grade 8 is Physical Science: matter, energy, forces and waves.

High school

Biology in Grade 9 runs 11 units and 98 skills, from molecules and enzymes through cells, genetics, evolution and ecology to the human body, ending in a capstone argument about a real biological case. Chemistry in Grade 10 is built around kitchen-safe investigations with no fume hood. Grade 11 is algebra-based Physics, and Grade 12 is Environmental Science.

Secular, and checkable

Evolution is a unit in the biology sequence, not a footnote or an "alternative view" panel. You can read every unit of every science course before paying, with no account, and the first unit of Grade 9 Biology, The Chemistry of Life, is a free printable at /free/grade-9-biology.

What this is not

  • It does not ship a lab kit. K-2 activities use things most homes have, and each lists what it needs.
  • K-2 science is not independent. It is an activity a parent leads.
  • It is not accredited. Check what your state or a college asks of a lab science.

Before your child starts: what we collect and why

We collect only what it takes to teach your child: the first name and sign-in you choose, their answers and progress, and their chat with Clara (written by Anthropic's AI, read aloud by OpenAI). Nobody trains AI on it or sells it, and you can see or delete it any time. You create your child's account yourself. Paying by card is how you give consent.

Read what we collect and why

Your consent is needed before we collect anything from your child, and we collect nothing without it. You create your child's account yourself; they never sign up alone.

  • What we collect from your child: the first name and sign-in you choose, their answers, time on lessons and progress, and their chat with Clara. Used to run the lessons, build their transcript and show you how they are doing.
  • Who else handles it: Anthropic (an AI company) receives the chat text and the lesson, with your child's first name but no last name or account details, to write Clara's replies. That is how Clara works, so it is part of the service. If you switch on answering out loud for a child, their voice is turned into text on our own server and then discarded; it is never sent to another company. OpenAI turns lesson text and Clara's replies (which can include your child's first name) into the read-aloud voice. Our email provider sends you reports about your child. Nobody trains AI on your child's data, and nobody sells it.
  • Your rights: see everything collected from your child, have it deleted, or stop further collection at any time, from your account or by emailingour support address. If you refuse the AI sharing above, Clara cannot teach, so the service cannot run. Chats are deleted after 30 days.
  • Safety: if your child writes something suggesting they may be hurt or in danger, we email you and Clareza's owner the same day.

Paying by card is how you give consent. Full details, including how long we keep each thing: Privacy Policy (version 2026-10-05).

Questions parents ask

Does Clareza teach evolution?

Yes. Evolution is taught as science, as a unit in Grade 9 Biology, and taught in Grade 7 Life Science, aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards.

Can chemistry be done at home?

Yes. The Grade 10 chemistry course was written for home: every investigation is kitchen-safe and needs no fume hood and no regulated reagents.

Do I need to buy science supplies?

Almost nothing bought specially. The K-2 activities use things most homes already have, and each lists what it needs before you start.
