Screen time, stated plainly
How much screen time is an online homeschool curriculum?
With Clareza Academy it is roughly 30 to 50 minutes on screen per subject per day, so the daily total depends on how many subjects your child takes, while PE is deliberately off screen and kindergarten to Grade 2 science and social studies are hands-on activities you do together.
What the screen time is
Clara teaches through conversation rather than video: she introduces the idea, asks a question and responds to what your child answered. There is no lecture to sit through.
What is off screen
PE gives a weekly plan of what to go and do. In kindergarten to Grade 2, science and social studies are hands-on activities you lead, followed by a short read-aloud tap game, and kindergarten math is an activity with real objects.
Ways to shorten a sitting
In Learning Supports a parent can switch on Short lessons, which breaks practice into 10 or 15 minute pieces, and Movement breaks, a short stand-up-and-move break every so often. There is also a printable worksheet support that prints a lesson's questions with big writing lines.
Games, and how to hide them
From Grade 3 a child can choose to practise through one of nine learning games, and right answers earn coins for building their own world. If you would rather they did not, the "No timers" Learning Support hides the games.
Printed books, if you want paper
Every course also exists as printable PDF books, a single subject, a whole grade or the whole K-12 library, sold as a one-time purchase at /printed-books.
What this is not
- It is a screen-based curriculum. Outside PE and the K-2 activities, the teaching happens on a screen.
- Thirty to fifty minutes is per subject, not per day. Several subjects add up to a few hours.
- The games are designed to be fun, and some children will want more of them. You decide whether they stay on.

Questions parents ask
How many hours a day is my child on a screen?
Roughly 30 to 50 minutes per subject per day. The total depends on how many subjects your child takes, and PE is off screen.
Is it video lessons?
No. Clara teaches through conversation: she explains, asks a question and responds to your child's answer.
Can we do it on paper?
Partly. Every course is available as printable PDF books bought once, and a support prints any lesson's questions with big writing lines. Mastery is recorded for work done in the app; a parent can add offline hours to a course by hand.
Can I turn the games off?
Yes. Switch on "No timers" in that child's Learning Supports and the games are hidden.
