Spanish at home
How can I teach Spanish at home if I don't speak it?
Choose a course where your child talks in Spanish every lesson, because conversation is what builds a language and it is what a parent who does not speak Spanish cannot supply. In Clareza Academy, Clara talks with your child one to one, starting mostly in English and adding Spanish as they cope.
Three courses
¡Empecemos! for grades 6 to 8 (/courses/g7-empecemos-spanish-for-middle-school), then Spanish I (/courses/g9-spanish-i) and Spanish II (/courses/g10-spanish-ii) in high school. Each is 36 weeks. Spanish I aims at the A2 level, with B1 in reach.
Talking, not drills
There are no grammar drills, conjugation tables or vocabulary quizzes. Clara answers what your child means and fixes mistakes by saying it back correctly. Spanish I starts at about 10% Spanish and goes up as your child copes. Spanish II runs in much more Spanish.
You can learn alongside
You do not need to speak Spanish. You can read Clara's recent conversations with your child afterwards and pick up words too.
What this is not
- Spanish is the only language, and there is no course before Grade 6.
- Clara is an AI, not a native speaker in the room. She can be wrong.
- There is no Spanish III or AP Spanish.

Questions parents ask
Can a parent who does not speak Spanish teach it?
Yes, with a course that does the talking. In Clareza, Clara is the conversation partner.
Does it teach grammar?
Not as rules. Clara corrects by recasting and only explains grammar if your child asks.
How many years of Spanish are there?
A middle school year, then Spanish I and Spanish II in high school.
