The week, by age
What should a weekly homeschool schedule look like?
A common week has reading and math four or five days, science, history and the extras two or three days each, and often one lighter day for outings or catching up. You can fix subjects to days, or use a loop schedule where you simply do the next subject on the list.
Kindergarten to Grade 2
Short reading and math most days, with plenty of read-aloud and play. In Clareza, phonics is about 15 minutes a day, five days a week, and K-2 science and social studies are two or three short sessions a week that you lead.
Middle and high school
More subjects and longer sessions. Clareza's course guides plan most full-year courses on five days a week, about 50 minutes each, and a few, such as Economics and Speech, run for a semester, so some families take one elective in the fall and another in the spring.
Fixed days or a loop
Fixed days, such as science on Monday and Wednesday, suit families who like a routine. A loop, a list you work through in order whatever the day, suits weeks that keep getting interrupted, because nothing is ever missed, only next.
Where Clareza fits
There are no set class times, and units are bodies of work, not weeks, so a lost day does not put your child behind a calendar. How long each day takes, by age, is at /homeschool-curriculum/what-a-homeschool-day-looks-like.
What Clareza does not do
- It does not build a weekly timetable. You decide which subjects happen on which days.
- Most course guides assume five days a week. Fewer days is fine, but the course then takes longer than a school year.
- K-2 science and social studies need you there for each session.
