Reading is hard for them
What homeschool curriculum works for a child with dyslexia?
Most children with dyslexia do best with explicit, systematic phonics taught at their level in short daily sessions, plus help reading in the other subjects so it does not hold back their thinking. For real dyslexia, a specialist reading program or tutor is often worth it, and Clareza Academy is not one.
Teach reading directly
Sounds first, then blending them into words, in a set order, with lots of practice. Clareza's Learning to Read course teaches phonics this way, starting from four letter sounds, and you can place an older child in it for reading while they stay at their own grade for math.
Reading support in every subject
Tick Reading support and lessons, questions, answer choices and feedback are read aloud with each word highlighted, in an easier-to-read font with extra spacing. Your child can answer by tapping, and spelling never counts against them.
Get an evaluation
If reading stays very hard, ask your school district or an educational psychologist about an evaluation. It tells you what kind of help your child needs. There is more on supports at /homeschool-curriculum/homeschooling-with-an-iep-or-learning-disability.
What this is not
- Clareza is not an Orton-Gillingham program or a dyslexia intervention, and it does not diagnose anything.
- It provides no specialist tutoring or therapy. Keep any outside help going.
- Clara is an AI and can be wrong. Listen to your child read, not only the scores.

Questions parents ask
Is Clareza an Orton-Gillingham program?
No. It teaches systematic phonics and reads every question aloud, but it is not an Orton-Gillingham or dyslexia intervention program.
Can my child listen instead of reading in other subjects?
Yes. With Reading support on, lessons, questions and answers are read aloud with each word highlighted.
Do I have to tell Clareza about the diagnosis?
No. You tick the supports that help, and a diagnosis is never stored.
