Lab science at home
How do I do high school lab science at home?
With investigations that use household materials, kept in a lab notebook with data, results and a written conclusion, and by checking early what any college your teen may apply to expects from a lab science. Clareza Academy's Chemistry and Physics were written for home.
Chemistry, kitchen-safe
Grade 10 Chemistry in the Kitchen and Beyond is built around kitchen-safe, home-adaptable investigations, from measurement and separating mixtures to solutions, rates and acids and bases.
Physics with household materials
Grade 11 Algebra-Based Physics builds models from experiments with carts, springs, pendulums and battery-and-bulb circuits, using algebra, not calculus. It expects Algebra I and Geometry first.
Biology and Environmental Science
Grade 9 Biology is built around real cases and datasets, 11 units from the chemistry of life to the human body. Grade 12 Environmental Science adds field investigations and data analysis.
What this is not
- Clareza does not ship a lab kit, and Clara cannot see the experiment. Your teen does it and reports what they found.
- There is no dissection, and Biology describes microscope views in words rather than asking for a microscope.
- Clareza is not accredited. Check what your state or a college asks of a lab science.

Questions parents ask
Can you do chemistry at home safely?
Yes, with the right course. Clareza's chemistry investigations are kitchen-safe and need no fume hood.
Do colleges accept homeschool lab science?
Many do, especially with a lab notebook and a clear course description. Ask the colleges your teen is considering.
How many lab sciences does a homeschooler need?
It depends on your state and the colleges in view. Many colleges ask for two or three.
