Several years behind
My teen is years behind in school. Can they still catch up?
Often yes, and faster than the number of years suggests, because a teen who starts at their real level learns quicker than a young child does. Find where they are in reading and math, work a little every day, and move on as soon as each skill is solid.
Find the real level
Check reading and math separately, without shame. A teen can read well and do math at a Grade 3 level. That is a starting point, not a verdict.
Math and reading first
They unlock everything else. Times tables, fractions and reading fluency are the usual gaps. Short daily practice beats long weekly sessions.
If the goal is a GED
High school equivalency tests are usually prepared for through adult education programs, many free, with classes and practice tests. Ask your library or community college where the nearest one is.
Where Clareza fits
You can add courses from any grade, with math from Kindergarten through Precalculus, and the placement check suggests a starting point for math or reading. Practice is mastery-paced, so a skill proven early moves on the same day, and Clara explains each mistake. For a child a grade or so behind, see /homeschool-curriculum/homeschool-curriculum-for-a-child-who-is-behind.
What this is not
- Clareza has no GED or high school equivalency course, is not accredited and does not issue a diploma.
- Courses below Grade 3 are built for young children, with picture cards and a tap game. Some teens find them babyish.
- It is set up as a parent account with children under it. An adult studying alone may be better served by an adult education program.

Questions parents ask
Can a teenager catch up on years of missed school?
Often, yes, with daily work at their real level. Math usually takes longest, so start there.
I was homeschooled and never really taught. How do I get a GED?
Contact an adult education program through your library or community college. Many are free and include practice tests.
Does Clareza have GED prep?
No. It has math from Kindergarten through Precalculus and reading and English for every grade, but no GED course.
