Hours, portfolio and transcript

Keeping homeschool records and transcripts

Clareza Academy keeps the main homeschool records for you: instructional hours log automatically as your child works, mastery is tracked per skill as a portfolio record, and a transcript prints in one click. What your state asks you to keep differs, so the first step is to know your own state's rule, and the second is to stop reconstructing the year from memory.

Start with what your state asks for

States differ on whether you file a notice, which subjects are required, what records you keep and whether there is testing. We publish a plain-language summary for all 50 states, sourced from statutes and state education departments, dated, and free to read whether or not you ever buy anything.

Hours that log themselves

Instructional hours log automatically while your child works. If your state counts days or hours, you are counting from the day you start rather than rebuilding a partial year later.

A portfolio record of what was mastered

Mastery is tracked per skill, which is a ready-made portfolio record. When a state, an evaluator or a receiving school asks what was actually covered, the answer already exists, skill by skill.

A transcript in one click

The transcript prints on Clareza Academy letterhead, with grades derived from mastery rather than assigned by you, and hours logged per course against the standard 120 to 180 hour credit convention. That answers the objection every homeschool family eventually hears: "the parent gave the grades."

Keep the school's records too

If your child is leaving a school, request the cumulative file, any evaluations and any current plan before you go. They are harder to get afterwards, and a future evaluator or receiving school will want them alongside your own records.

What this is not

  • It is not accredited and it does not issue a diploma. Accreditation applies to schools, and in most states your homeschool is the school. What Clareza gives you is the documentation.
  • It does not file anything with your state. Sending a notice, a portfolio or an evaluation is still your job, and the rules are your state's.
  • It logs the work done in Clareza. A co-op class, a library afternoon or a field trip is not in that log, so if your state counts those hours, note them yourself.
  • Clara's conversations with your child are kept for 30 days and then deleted, so they are not part of the long-term record.
  • Nothing on this page is legal advice. Record-keeping rules differ by state, and you should confirm yours directly.

Questions parents ask

How do I keep homeschool records and transcripts?

Check what your state requires first, since it varies. With Clareza Academy, instructional hours log automatically, mastery is tracked per skill as a portfolio record, and a transcript prints in one click, with grades derived from mastery and hours per course.

Do I have to log hours by hand?

Not for work done in Clareza. Instructional hours log automatically while your child works.

Will colleges accept a homeschool transcript?

Each college decides for itself. Clareza's transcript is printed on Clareza Academy letterhead with grades derived from mastery, not assigned by you, plus hours logged per course against the standard 120 to 180 hour credit convention, which is what an admissions office wants to see.

Is Clareza Academy accredited?

No, and almost no homeschool curriculum is. Accreditation applies to schools, and in most states your homeschool is the school. What matters for records is documentation, which is what the transcript and hours report are for.

What records does my state require?

It varies by state. We publish a plain-language summary for all 50 states covering notices, required subjects, records and testing, but always confirm current rules with your state.
