A comparison written by one of the two
Clareza Academy vs Duolingo
We make one of these, so read this the way you would read any comparison written by a seller. What we can do is be specific about our own product, accurate about the shape of theirs, and honest about where they are the better answer. Their current price is on their site, not on this page, and the reason is at the bottom.
What Duolingo is
Duolingo is a very popular language learning app with short, game-like lessons, streaks and many languages, including Spanish. It can be used for free, with paid tiers that add features.
The pricing difference that actually decides it
Free to use, with optional paid plans. Check their site for what each plan includes.
Clareza is $29 a month for every child in the household, month to month, with no per-child seats and no course limits. That is $348 a year whether you have one child or four, or $290 a year on the annual plan. The first 30 days are free, a card is taken and nothing is charged until day 30, and cancelling before then costs nothing.
The comparison to run is the same either way: monthly price, times the number of children, times twelve.

- You want a few minutes of daily language practice for free. Duolingo is free and built for exactly that.
- You want a language Clareza does not teach. Clareza teaches Spanish only. Duolingo has many languages.
- Your child is under Grade 7. Clareza's Spanish starts in Grade 7.
Where Clareza is different
Spanish as a course, in order
Three courses: ¡Empecemos! Spanish for Middle School for Grades 6 to 8, then Spanish I and Spanish II for high school. They build from first words to opinions, explanations and real conversation, unit by unit.
A teacher that answers back
Clara, the teacher built into every lesson, responds to what your child wrote and explains the mistake. She is an AI and can be wrong. She is not a native speaker, so add real conversation where you can.
Records for high school
Hours log on their own and a transcript prints in one click, which helps when you list Spanish I and II on a high school transcript.
One price for the household
$29 a month covers every child in the family and all 71 courses, with no per-child seats and no different rate for high school.

Questions parents ask
Is Duolingo enough for high school Spanish?
That is your call as the parent, and your state's rules may matter. A course with units, practice and records is easier to list on a transcript. Many families use Duolingo as extra practice either way.
Can my child use both?
Yes, and it works well: Duolingo for a few minutes of daily practice, Clareza for the course.
Which grades have Spanish in Clareza?
Grades 6 to 8 (¡Empecemos!), then Spanish I and Spanish II. You can add a course from another grade, so a younger child can start early.

Why there is no price for Duolingo on this page
We checked in September 2026 and the sources contradicted each other, including the companies' own pages against the review sites. Publishing a competitor's price that turns out to be wrong is unfair to them and useless to you, and any figure here would be out of date within a month anyway. Ours is above, because it is ours and we can stand behind it. Theirs is one click away, on their site, where it is current.
