A comparison written by one of the two
Clareza Academy vs Brave Writer
We make one of these, so read this the way you would read any comparison written by a seller. What we can do is be specific about our own product, accurate about the shape of theirs, and honest about where they are the better answer. Their current price is on their site, not on this page, and the reason is at the bottom.
What Brave Writer is
Brave Writer is a homeschool writing and language arts program founded by Julie Bogart. It is known for a relaxed, relationship-centred approach: the parent and child write and read together, with guides for the parent, read-aloud based materials and online writing classes. Many families credit it with turning a reluctant writer around.
The pricing difference that actually decides it
They sell guides and materials per product, and online classes per class. Check their site for what is offered now.
Clareza is $29 a month for every child in the household, month to month, with no per-child seats and no course limits. That is $348 a year whether you have one child or four, or $290 a year on the annual plan. The first 30 days are free, a card is taken and nothing is charged until day 30, and cancelling before then costs nothing.
The comparison to run is the same either way: monthly price, times the number of children, times twelve.

- Writing is the problem you are trying to solve. Brave Writer is built around writing and the parent who teaches it. Clareza covers writing inside English, not as a program of its own.
- You want to do the writing with your child. Their approach puts you at the table, which many families love. In Clareza, Clara does most of the coaching.
- You want a human teacher to read your child's work. Their online classes have one. Clareza has no live human classes.
Where Clareza is different
Writing inside a full English course
From Grade 3, writing is part of every English course, with reading, grammar and evidence in the same lessons. Clara coaches it in the chat, one part at a time. The finished piece is not graded, so read your child's work yourself too.
Every subject, not only writing
Math to Precalculus, English to Grade 12, science, history and electives are all in one account, so writing is not a separate purchase on top of a separate curriculum.
A teacher that explains the mistake
Clara, the teacher built into every lesson, reads the answer your child gave and responds to it. A child who answers 136 to 304 minus 178 is told which column went wrong and walked through that column. She is an AI and can be wrong, which is why you can read every conversation from the parent side for 30 days.
One price for the household
$29 a month covers every child in the family and all 71 courses, with no per-child seats and no different rate for high school.

Questions parents ask
Can I use Brave Writer with Clareza?
Yes. Some families use Brave Writer for writing and Clareza for math and the other subjects. Clareza is one price whether your child uses one course or ten.
Does Clareza grade my child's essays?
No. Clara coaches the writing in the chat, but the finished piece is not graded. Read it yourself, or use a program with a human reader if feedback on the final draft matters to you.
Which is better for a reluctant writer?
It depends on the child. Brave Writer leans on the parent and the relationship. Clareza breaks the writing into small steps with Clara. If your child shuts down with you, a step-by-step coach can help; if they open up with you, Brave Writer may suit them better.

Why there is no price for Brave Writer on this page
We checked in September 2026 and the sources contradicted each other, including the companies' own pages against the review sites. Publishing a competitor's price that turns out to be wrong is unfair to them and useless to you, and any figure here would be out of date within a month anyway. Ours is above, because it is ours and we can stand behind it. Theirs is one click away, on their site, where it is current.
